Kickstarter Campaign Video - SleepaSloth

They say 'Never work with animals or children!' On this project I have done both, of sorts, and both the sweet baby girl and the SleepaSloth, the star of the show, were incredibly well behaved during the shoot.

When Alan and Laurène contacted me at the beginning of the year, they just started to plan their Kickstarter campaign but they already had a pretty clear idea of what they wanted in terms of the video, which was great. We had a couple of calls flashing out the treatment and we also decided to take it a step further and produce a Founder video as well as some Behind the Scenes assets for Instagram that they could share prior to launching their campaign.

Once all pre-production assets like the script, storyboard and style guide were finalised, we did two shoots. During the one in March I've forcused on getting content for their Instagram teaser and the shoot in July was dedicated to the Kickstarter Campaign Film.

By then, the couple had welcomed their third baby, who features alongside the SleepaSloth in the film. Their older children make an appearance as well, and it was lovely to get the whole family involved on the day.

Laurène Mosley, Co-Founder of SleepaSloth explains their inspiration behind the baby sleep aid:

'As a mum of three, I know how much sleep deprivation can impact your daily life, as well as your physical and mental wellbeing. Without a good night’s sleep, we can’t function as well as we need to for ourselves and our children! We’ve had three children and every one of them has had different sleep patterns and needs, some much more straightforward than others! One preferred lullabies, our youngest white noise and our middle child, the sound of our voice. What’s for sure is they all loved having sound while getting to sleep. Babies are so used to hearing all sorts of noises while in the womb so it makes sense that they are naturally soothed by sound when born.

Our second was the inspiration behind SleepaSloth, he found settling to sleep a bit tricky and always wanted to hear our voice over and over and again. That’s when I realised that the device I needed wasn’t on the market – a machine that allowed me to play the classic lullabies and white noise but also allowed me to play whatever sound I chose and wanted to upload or record in high quality, to then play for him exactly the amount of time I needed. He especially loved my shushing and his Daddy’s humming.'

  • Write a script and create a storyboard to visualise the video before production
  • Avoid asking for "help" or "donations"; instead, invite viewers to contribute or invest
  • Show your video to people matching your target backer profile for feedback before launching
  • Monitor key performance indicators like view count, watch time, and conversion rate after launch.
  • Remember, the primary goal of your Kickstarter video is to convert viewers into backers.
